The Brilliance Academy

Who are they?

These students have been identified by their academic potential, in part because of their strong performance in their KS2 SATs. The government and Ofsted require that we track all subgroups including these. Here at Grace Academy Darlaston we have developed a pathway called The Brilliance Academy which starts from year 7 and as well as receiving a challenging diet through their curriculum offer, they also follow a programme  that will stimulate students right from their first few weeks at Grace Academy all the way until their GCSE exams.

Each year group has a specific focus helping them to develop an understanding of themselves as well as develop skills such as resilience and problem solving. We aim to develop a growth mindset and really refine one of our Grace values, ‘Limitless Potential’.

What have they been up to?

The Brilliance Academy have been out of the academy the past few months visiting universities and careers fairs with a vision to raise aspiration and gain inspiration.

The year 10 Brilliance Academy students visited Cambridge university in January to gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to get into Russell Group university. Before the visit students had preconceived perceptions of Cambridge university and thought it was not a consideration for themselves. Post visit, students’ perception changed and are now motivated, with all students now aspiring to go to Russell Group universities.
